The First Four Months in SF

At just a few days short of my four month anniversary, I still find myself in absolute awe of this amazing city! In the simple, routine events of each day, I still look around and think I've made it. I can't believe how much my life has changed over time and over the past ten years.

Have you ever watched Children of the Corn? If so, imagine plopping a double-wide trailer in the middle of the cornfield - that's where I grew up (thankfully without the freaky children). My hometown has had a steady population of approximately 1,000 people since the 1940s, and the only stoplight is on the bypass that goes around the city limits. I found myself in different pockets of Kentucky throughout my 20s and it will always be home to me, but I have felt the need to spread my wings for the past few years. Now I am living in one of the most inspiring and influential cities in the country.

In the first four months of living in San Francisco, I have...

  • Moved twice (moved to Haight-Ashbury originally, then to the Castro)

  • Finished my second master's degree

  • Started dedicating more time and energy to my photography

  • Joined Cheer San Francisco and performed in several events

  • ...and so much more

My favorite highlights of living here so far:

  • All the new friends I have made, because I would truly be lost if I was here all alone

  • The beach!! I love visiting Baker Beach when I can, but the dogs seem to like Ocean Beach more

  • Performing with CheerSF as much as possible and getting a backstage look into so many other non-profits in the city

  • The number of opportunities that have been made available for me in photography; I love photographing CheerSF when I'm not performing, doing photoshoots with my dogs, and am looking forward to doing more professional events in 2026.
